I'd quibble with some of the details, and with some of the ending analysis (I think that so many cartoonists suited to the form actively avoid syndication is part of Watterson's legacy, not something that runs parallel with it). Mostly, this suggests to me that we're waiting for someone that bridges this gap more than we might realize.
