Go, Read: Nick Gazin’s List Of Comics To Buy From 2013



Nick Gazin at Vice.com released a list of best-of comics for 2013, which he qualifies right in the headline by suggesting that maybe they're just a list of comics you can buy. Given how random and bizarre a lot of lists seem this year, that's either a startlingly humble admission or a cynical snapshot of the zeitgeist. Or both. Words are versatile.

Good list, though. His choices are:

10. School Spirits, Anya Davidson (PictureBox)
9. Epoxy #4, John Pham (Self-Published)
8. Life Zone, Simon Hanselmann (Space Face Books)
7. The Manara Library Volume Five: The Further Adventures of Giuseppe Bergman, Milo Manara (Dark Horse)
6. Lose #5, Michael DeForge (Koyama)
5. Prison Pit Vol. 5, Johnny Ryan (Fantagraphics)
4. My Dirty Dumb Eyes, Lisa Hanawalt (Drawn and Quarterly)
3. Blobby Boys, Alex Schubert (Koyama)
2. Tain't The Meat... It's the Humanity and Other Stories, Jack Davis (Fantagraphics)
1. The Adventures of Jodelle, Guy Peellaert and Pierre Bartier (Fantagraphics)

That #1 choices; it's made only a couple of best-of lists this year but it's a fascinating book and that it was one of the last pet projects in Kim Thompson's long and admirable career makes it of additional interest.
