Go, Read: NYT Profiles Jordanian Comics Maker Suleiman Bakhit
Here. I know this is a well-written article because the idea of superheroes as a competing ideology with terrorist mythology is usually the kind of thing that makes me break out in hives. I still only think it's half a case -- I don't know why Superman and Batman (or Jack Bauer, cited in the piece) are assumed to be beneficial mythologies in the very specific context described -- but I like reading someone that passionately involved making it. I also like the idea of looking at all of these comics in terms not just of their
existence as kind of cultural signifiers and explainers but for the content of what they're saying in that role.
