Go, Read: XKCD Book Effort Profiled

I've been meaning to link
to one of the articles about Randall Munroe's success with a first, self-published print volume of his XKCD. There are a couple of reasons. One, the notion of putting some of the resulting monies to work on behalf of a school in Laos is so terrific an idea it seems like a parody when you read it. Two, I think the model he's employing in order to get his work out there is an overwhelming, positive good. I'm not a triumphalist when it comes to one way of doing business over another. I figure the more successful models there are the more artists will be able to find a model that suits them and the more each model will have to work on behalf of the artists that employ them rather than the other way around. I'm also doubtful every model suits everyone.
