James Welborn Of Somerville’s Hub Comics Dead At 37

According to a sympathetically written article at the
Boston Globe, James Welborn, the owner and operator of
Hub Comics in Somerville, Massachusetts, died May 23 at a local hospital after being found in his home a week earlier. He was 37 years old.
The article strongly suggests but does not confirm a cause of death. Police are apparently still investigating the matter.
Hub Comics opened in 2008 with the expressed sentiment that it be a place where people could be exposed to comics as an art form. The store lost its account with Diamond in Fall 2010 but enough customers continued to buy comics that the store remained open,
with hopes of re-establishing that account. Store manager Jesse Farrell, an employee since Hub Comics' start, is having a sale to clear out the store's backlog of material. He told the
Globe that he hopes the store will remain open.
Details on a memorial service to be held at the shop are pending.
