Jean-Marie Brouyère, 1943-2009



Jean-Marie Brouyère, a veteran French-language comics industry writer who was also a skilled artist, died on December 10. Brouyère first started working on comics in the latter half of the 1960s, with work on the Onomatopax and Toutouffu series in Tintin. In the 1970s, he became best known for his work in Spirou. He began with a work he fully cartooned called Al Alo but then became a writer on such series as the Charles Bronson-reminiscent Archie Cash (with the artist Malik), which lasted from 1971 to 1987. Other assignements included Aymone and Naufrages de l'Escalator. He was frequently paired with younger artists.

Brouyère left the field in the 1980s to pursue other interests.
