Jump Start Bulletproof Vest Advocacy Strip Alarms One Local Community
Just to show that how rigid a series of lines within which comic strip cartoonists have to function in bringing their work to their particular marketplace, a
Jump Start cartoon
apparently elicited multiple calls of complaint from a local community beset by recent cop shootings despite the fact that the sequence was about the importance of proper safety gear. To their credit, the
Rochester Democrat And Chronicle let the sequence continue through its end, while reaching out to the complainants. Cartoonist Robb Armstrong also spoke in solicitous fashion to those who found the strip's outright depiction of a violent act upsetting.
I have to admit: I can't remember anyone getting shot in a newspaper strip like that, not in a few decades.
