Missed It: Libyan Street Cartoonist Slain Post-Caricature The cartoonist's name was Kais al-Hilali, and he was 34 years old when he was slain late last month after making a caricature of Muammar Qaddafi on a wall in Benghazi. In general, cartoon portraiture and editorial cartooning of the carry around or stand in front of variety has been a significant component of the turmoil in northern Africa. This is the first time I've heard about a cartoonist being slain in the act, though. Luckily, other cartoonists took notice and memorialized him with their work and expressed wishes of solidarity.
