Muslim Leader Drops Human Rights Complaint Against Publisher Ezra Levant

Calgary's Syed Soharwardy, the president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada,
has announced that he has withdrawn his complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission regarding Ezra Levant of the now-defunct
Western Standard and that publication's decision to run the controversial Muhammed caricatures that appeared in the Danish newspaper
Jyllands-Posten and led to worldwide protests and political turmoil in early 2006. Levant made a strong statement in response saying that this was a "tactical truce" and that he plans to launch a civil lawsuit against Soharwardy to gain back money spent on defending himself against the Commission.
Originally named in the complaint as another magazine publishing the cartoons,
Jewish Free Press and its publisher Richard Bronstein had already come to a resolution through mediation in March 2007.
