Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* the editorial cartoonist Eric Devericks at the
Seattle Times has kept his job through the latest round of cutbacks and voluntary staff retirements, the
Daily Cartoonist says. Devericks was in danger of being cut by his paper's latest round of staff pruning, a fairly common incident at major newspapers right now that has had a special impact on cartoonists in part because of the way they're regarded in some newsrooms.

SF Chronicle has an article up about their attempts to find a strip to run during
Doonesbury's latest hiatus. As widely reported,
Candorville has been pushed by its syndicate and a lot of papers including the
Chronicle have tried that feature out.
* Steven Camley of
The Herald was named the cartoonist of the year in this year's Scottish Press awards. He beat out a group of nominees that included Brian Adcock, Frank Boyle, Bill McArthur and Nick Newman. Adcock was the award's runner-up.
