Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* the great Richard Thompson
announces a new book, in support of charity. Please order/give/donate if you can.

* Henry Chamberlain on
Mighty Star And The Castle Of The Cancatervater. Todd Klein on
Pogo Vol. 3. Sean Gaffney on
Black Lagoon Vol. 10.
* Mike Mignola draws
Martha Washington. Don't know that I'd seen that one before.
* Maggie Lynch
writes about cataloguing a unique donation from Art Spiegelman and Francoise Mouly to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum.
*
here's a fun drawing from Steve Rude, complete with various steps leading to the final version.
* the aggressive anti-Asian racism is hard to take, but visually
these early Harvey Kurtzman pages are really appealing-looking, doubly so for someone that's known the aggressively stylized work he did later on.
* Mike Lynch
re-runs his unpacking of a 1953 issue of
Cartoonist focusing on a bunch of cartoonists taking a few days to vacation together. It was a different time. To my eye there's always something slightly sinister and unpleasant about male-dominated activities from 50, 60, 70 years ago, even though I know this was like stuff my father and my grandfather did and it was usually goofy rather than evil.
* finally, Art Adams draws
Marvel's Man-Thing. I wouldn't think that would be a good match, but it is.
