Random Comics News Story Round-Up

*
this is a short profile about Fabrice Neaud's work on
Alex ou la vie d'apres. I'm not sure if I completely understand the piece, but it sounds like the book is being made available for free for a short time.
* click
here to help Dan Shahin attend a conference.

* every new talent search conducted by a major company should be followed up by
a press release saying what was found. Dark Horse found Sarah Oleksyk (work at left) and Liz Greenfield at the recent Stumptown Comics Fest, and will put some of their comics up on-line.
*
BusinessWeek takes a look at the basics of the Marvel film deal, and estimates that
Iron Man could be worth as much as $200 million to the company's bottom line.
* speaking of
Iron Man,
here's a piece on
Comics Worth Reading that notes a video trailer designed to direct people to the comic books, plus news that although the first issue of the new title is sold out, Marvel won't be reprinting it. What constitutes a sell-out in comics is really up in the air interpretation-wise, so one can't even be sure what that means.
* that there were
changes coming at Newsarama was news to me, although not surprising news.
*
the Seattle P-I profiles Fantagraphics store manager and longtime fixture of the Seattle arts and culture scene, Larry Reid. Reid is an interesting figure, one reason being that he's a figure who believes in comics as a kind of low, underground art that works at Fantagraphics at a time when they're best known as a publisher of high-end graphic novel efforts.
* finally, I thought
this was a better than average short profile of Art Spiegelman, and
this was a cool picture of Moebius.
