Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* Michael Cavna takes a quick survey of government shutdown cartoons.

image* Bob Temuka walks through the history of the Lobo character, given the launch of a sexy version of the character in DC's ongoing line revamp.

* Brigid Alverson talks to Deron Bennett. Noelene Clark talks to Craig Thompson.

* that is indeed one creepy-ass looking Joker.

* this is one of those stories that's fun to read and I guess could be true in terms of the implications floated -- I assume it's true in the facts reported. It would be deeply ironic if true, considering the fortunes of Kane and the fortunes of Siegel and Shuster after those initial, profitable years.

* here's a Pat Moriarity illustration inked by Jim Blanchard.

* this article on a pair of comics collectors is sort of fascinating. I didn't know that anyone really looked at their collections as investment opportunities, but there are indeed still ways to work that system for some random cash when you care to.

* not comics: Image Comics' David Brothers runs for charity.

* Kevin Huizenga on the new Palooka-Ville. Rob Clough on Failure.

* I'm lost as to the exact nature of the practice whereby people guess and speculate about the nature of teaser images released by the big publishing companies. If I had to guess, I'd probably go simple: these companies need a way to promote material that might not hold one's imagination once announced and there are publications that are desperate for content. So everyone gets to report the publishing news twice, essentially, if not three times -- say if you add a "post-game" to it. One sign that this is ephemeral is that I can't recall a single one where the comic that ended up being published invited commentary on the teaser, something I would assume to happen over time if these were really hardcore publishing news stories.

* finally, David Bowie's book list includes two comics magazines: RAW and Viz.
