I think my Mom had it right in that it's the honorary ambassador thing that tastes the most wrong, not the use of the character to promote women around the world. All of the fights in the area of women's rights are tough enough without a whole meta-argument about what's real and what isn't and how that character would relate to the real world if they were a real person.
