Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* are comics any more not kid-friendly right now than they were five years ago? I'm trying to figure out what Buddy Saunders is talking about. Like the Olympics, this task seems to come up every couple of years.

image* the writer of this massive, first-hand account of working in early 1980s comics distribution apologizes for a post in which very few people might be interested, but it's the kind of thing a certain comics fan including myself eats up with a spoon.

* RC Harvey has begun to write about Shel Dorf, as promised. Mark Evanier has notes here, and instructions on how to access Harvey's usually subscriber-only articles.

* a happy 300th issue wish to The Comics Journal from the metabunker gang.

* I had missed mention until now of a webcomics scholarship at the Center for Cartoon Studies.

* it's nice to see these Gilbert Shelton signing photos.

* the newspaper strip cartoonist Jan Eliot burnishes her passport one more time, this time out for a great cause.

* not comics: the Winnie the Pooh heirs are suing Disney again, this time for under-reporting the royalties they're due despite losing their big for full ownership.

* not comics: it's not like I was going to watch it with the Colts playing the Pats, but The Prisoner apparently sucking gives me some slight hope that there will be a moratorium on unnecessary remakes of British television shows before we see Heather Locklear and Jeff Goldblum as Sapphire and Steel or Samuel L. Jackson as George Smiley.

* that comic from yesterday I didn't know who it was by, it was by Sam Gaskin.

* here are 70 facts you may have already known about Marvel but have to be reminded. Most of them are even true.

* finally, Collen Doran has published a kind of summary post linking to a number of her creators advocacy writings over the years.
