Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* if you're going to read only one extended, comics-related thing today, you'll probably want to make it
this interview by Nicole Rudick with Lynda Barry for Paris Review. If that doesn't interest you, maybe make your one article
this James Romberger piece on Alex Toth and Joe Kubert. If not that, maybe
this interview with Drew Sheneman. That's all I got.

* there's a bunch of sketchbook stuff from Sophie Crumb in two posts
here and
here.
* the cartoonist Evan Dorkin
provides an update on the situation facing his cat, including a link to another House Of Fun-related sale.
*
I can see this happening.
* not comics: I always enjoy reading Mark Evanier on fast-food and regional choices regarding same, so I'm looking forward to devouring
this post about Steak And Shake and Las Vegas. There was a 24-hour Steak And Shake that my friends and I used to hit on our way to Indianapolis to catch early morning flights -- kind of a less gastronomically-distressing White Castle-type experience, with a business trip rather than a Rush concert as its cause. The gentleman running the late shift insisted on bringing your food out to you in the parking lot, I think just to alleviate some of his boredom by having something to do.
*
Dr. Doom Vs. Doctor Who.
* I'm not familiar with the cartoonist, but I like the look of
this cover.
*
here's a sizable interview with Zak Sally by Jason Miles, who in one of those twists of the alt-comics world is both a representative of Sally's publisher and an artist that Sally publishes.
* not comics:
I thought the same thing.
* congratulations to Kevin Church and TJ Kirsch on
finishing their webcomic She Died In Terrebonne,
and for being smart enough to get word out there that they've finished the comic for those of us that have been following it in irregular fashion.
*
it's hard out there for a cartoonist.
* Chris Sims
picks the ten best MAD covers.
MAD is so awesome I wanted to read that list despite knowing ahead of time what cover would be #1. Speaking of the lovely folks at
CA,
here's a nice post of art from that Bill Mantlo ROM show at Floating World.
* finally, any and all potential Christmas-related posts will follow this colon: Derek Kirk Kim
enters the last day on some little attended-to Same Difference original art that looks gorgeous to me. It looks like Steve Bissette
is bundling some same-theme art for easy holiday sale. Ray Fenwick has a free, down-loadable poster for the holidays
here.
