Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* the big news of the weekend is that Gareb Shamus (and his brother, and probably his lawyer) are out at Wizard. That surprises me only in that none of the comics sites that focus on mainstream comics have ever suggested this kind of force out as a possibility. I also don't quiet yet know if that's a actual dismissal in terms of "get away from us" or a departure in order to come back in a different position with many of the same responsibilities, like some sort of machine politician in the 1820s.

image* PW previews the Pogo series launch. Those comics are pretty.

* Marvel is changing the paper stock on Fantastic Four to something that they swear no one would have noticed unless they had told them.

* okay, I've never even heard of Ralph Kemp.

* Graeme McMillan notes that one expected collection of material from a series comics produced before DC's new 52 initiative has been cancelled, and that this could conceivably happen several more times.

* I'm glad that Brian Wood is getting work with Marvel if that's something he's interested in doing, but stacking mini-series this quickly onto a new series establishing itself seems to me not the greatest idea from an editorial standpoint. I have no real idea what I'm talking about, of course, so call it a hunch.

* love for Kerry Callen's animated comics covers.

* the writer Mark Millar predicts change, deep and fundamental. I'm predicting more comics starring Batman and Wolverine.

* Dan Nadel talks to Marc Bell.

* if I were coming to this blog cold and I only had time to read one story this morning, I'd make that story Todd Bak's report from that St. Petersburg comics convention.

* I have no thoughts on the forthcoming group of FCBD comics, but luckily Brigid Alverson has enough thoughts to share with everyone.

* finally, the writer and cartoonist Bill Willingham on his comic book and one of the TV shows currently on the air that seems a lot like his comic book.
