Marvel seems too weak a publisher right now within the expectations of its own milieu to make anything a success -- comics companies of a certain type used to have the luxury of letting ideas and approaches ferment because the sales bottom was relatively high. Those days are gone. The idea that you want to reap the benefits of a diverse publishing slate without taking on the obvious challenges of what that strategy brings to a corporate-entertainment publisher seems uniquely comics to me.
