The Slate Studio Cartoon Prize program released their shortlists for 2014 late last week: one for print comics, one for webcomics.

The print comics shortlist:

* Arsene Schrauwen, Olivier Schrauwen (Fantagraphics)
* Beautiful Darkness, Fabien Vehlmann and Kerascoet (Drawn and Quarterly) (pictured)
* Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? Roz Chast (Bloomsbury)
* Here, Richard McGuire (Pantheon)
* The Hospital Suite, John Porcellino (Drawn and Quarterly)
* How to Be Happy, Eleanor Davis (Fantagraphics)
* An Iranian Metamorphosis, Mana Neyestani (Uncivilized Books)

The webcomics shortlist:

* Bikram Addict, Eroyn Franklin (The Nib) (pictured)
* Carriers, Lauren R. Weinstein (Nautilus)
* Dear Amanda, Cathy G. Johnson.
* The Hole the Fox Did Make, Emily Carroll.
* Hollow, Part I, Sam Alden.
* How San Francisco Sold a Majority Stake To Tech, Susie Cagle (Al Jazeera America)
* Nod Away, Joshua W. Cotter.
* Oh Joy Sex Toy! Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan.
* SuperMutant Magic Academy, Jillian Tamaki.
* Watching, Winston Rowntree.

It's nice to see the Neyestani again; Uncivilized having two books on the list is an achievement worth noting given the publisher's relative size. The winners in each category will be announced April 6 and receive $1K. Last year's winners were Taiyo Matsumoto for Sunny (print) and Emily Carroll for Out of Skin (web).
