Nominees were named yesterday for the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award, given out annually at Comic-Con International (formerly San Diego Comic-Con) since 1982.

* Barry Deutsch, writer/artist, Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword (self-published)
* Cathy Malkasian, writer/artist, Percy Gloom (Fantagraphics)
* Mukesh Singh, artist, Shadow Hunter (Virgin Comics)
* Christian Slade, Corgi (Top Shelf)

Past winners include Steve Rude, Scott McCloud, Eric Shanower, Jeff Smith and R. Kikuo Johnson. This year's winner will be presented at the Eisner Awards ceremony on July 25.
