Your 2009 IGN.com Awards Winners
I'm only vaguely aware of the giant IGN.com web site, but I do remember they engage with mainstream comics and the occasional "independent" comic that might accidentally be placed next to a mainstream comic in a comic book store. The funny thing, I almost find lists like this more useful because I'm
not deeply invested in this area of comics and it's nice to have the well-regarded stuff pointed out to me. Plus if people insist on looking at the medium in a restrictive way, it's hard to argue them out of it.
Their winners are, by category:

Click through the link above for light commentary and runners-up. I agree with the thinking that Hawkman is kind of a tragedy, although I think maybe they mean something specific.
Curiously, a similarly restrictive mindset is at work with
this list of best comics covers from 2009, from people who should know better. I guess from reading the front page the claim is they had to do this because they couldn't look at everything because that would have been hard/impossible. I guess that's understandable, although I'm sure Kevin Melrose looked at enough stuff to take a stab at a broader list and I'm not sure why you don't change the title of your survey if you know it's restricted from the beginning. Then again, this graph is about 75 words longer than my actual interest in hashing out the subject, and I'm sure it's a fun list with several cool-looking covers and maybe some funny stuff from Chris Sims.
