Your Danish Cartoons Hangover Update

* in a still-shocking development despite being obvious the moment it popped up on the horizon, India has announced its intentions to charge David Coleman Headley with charges related to a coordinated 2008 attack in Mumbai that killed 166 people.

* he was charged here with scouting targets for that attack, on behalf of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. If I'm understanding the substance of those charges, it is believed that Headley used his status as an American businessman to do some area scouting for the terrorist group.

* the White House believes that these charges are very important to their overall anti-terrorism efforts.

* although the Mumbai connection dominated news, Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana were indeed charged with the Mickey Mouse Plot, a planned attack on the offices, the editor and one of the cartoonist wrapped up in 2005's publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. That set of charges also came with news that they included charges against retired Pakistani military major Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed.

* you know, I'm not one given over to predictions, but I bet there's a chance that Rana's defense will focus on the murderous plot against the cartoon makers as a bizarre but quaint circumstance compared to all the horrifying Mumbai stuff as a way to prove that Headley was playing Rana. There's a role planning to kill cartoonists and blow up newspapers has never enjoyed: the nicer option.
