Zapiro Wins The 2012 IPA Freedom To Publish Prize

Modern South African cartooning institution Jonathan "Zapiro" Shapiro has been awarded this year's Freedom To Publish prize from the Congress of the International Publishers Association, currently taking place in Cape Town and due to end Thursday. The award is given for bravery in publishing, with the committee chair giving the award citing the defamation lawsuit instigated against him by President Jacob Zuma and calling for an end for that maneuver as "a tool to stifle freedom of expression."
